Can't request a ride

You may be unable to request a ride for several reasons. Below are some common issues and how to resolve them.

Outstanding payment

You may have an outstanding payment with us. Follow the prompts in the app to clear it. Visit our I can’t clear a pending amount help article for detailed instructions.

Declined payment

Follow the prompts in the app to update your payment method, or visit our I cannot add or delete payment methods help article to learn more.

Uber unavailable in your location

After entering your pickup and dropoff locations, the app will tell you if Uber isn’t available in your area. You can check our availability on the Uber Cities page.

No drivers available

If there are no drivers available in your area, you can try a different product (i.e., UberX, UberXL, Uber Comfort) or ask the app to notify you when a driver becomes available.

Unconfirmed email or phone number

Check for verification messages from Uber. If you don’t have any, you may need to update your account settings.

App needs to be updated

You may need to update to the latest version of the app to request rides.

To update the app for iOS:

  • Go to the app store and check to see if the Uber Driver app needs to be updated
  • Once you’ve confirmed you’re using the most up-to-date version, restart the app
  • In case you are still unable to go online, check if your device’s software is updated to the latest version

To update the app for Android:

  • Go to the Play Store and check if your Uber Driver app is updated to the latest version
  • Once you’ve confirmed you’re using the most up-to-date version, restart the app
  • In case you are still not able to go online, go to the “Settings” app on your device and check for the latest software updates
  • Note that the software should be upgraded to Android 8 or above, only then would you be able to go online using your device

If your current device does not support the latest software version (Android 8 or above), you’ll have to use your account on some other device that has been upgraded to the latest version or supports the same
