Receiving cash trip requests
When you receive a trip request that will be paid in cash, the Uber app will display cash as the payment method. For these trips, it’s helpful to have enough change available if the rider pays with large bills.
If the rider pays less than the total fare
- After the trip ends, a confirmation screen will appear in your Uber app showing the total fare.
- If the rider pays less than this amount, select “Other amount” and enter the amount you received, even if it’s zero.
- The rider will then be prompted in their own app to confirm the amount you entered.
- If the rider can’t confirm (for example, if their phone is out of battery), select “The rider cannot respond” and choose the reason.
- Once confirmed, if your account and the trip are eligible, the correct amount will be added to your earnings, and the rider will have an outstanding balance in their account.
Giving change for overpayment
If the rider pays more than the total fare and you don’t have exact change, you can give change in two ways:
- Use the automatic change tool:
- If the rider agrees, select “Other amount” and enter the amount the rider gave you.
- The system will automatically return the difference as credits to the rider’s account and adjust your earnings.
- Give cash change directly, if you have enough change available.
Cash Payment Confirmation availability
- Cash Payment Confirmation is currently being tested and may not be available to all driver partners or on all cash trips.
- This feature may also be unavailable for trips between 10pm and 6am.
