Submitting the TLC Application

The first step towards getting an NYC TLC license is to submit the online TLC application. To do so, you’ll need a current driver’s license, a valid email address, and a Social Security number. Then, follow these steps:

1. Visit the TLC website
2. Select “Apply for New License”
3. Select “Driver”
4. Select “TLC Driver’s License (Medallion/For-Hire/Street Hail Livery Driver)”

The TLC will email you a receipt with your application number included. Do not delete this receipt. You will need it later in the application process.

The cost of the TLC application is $258, payable to the TLC by credit card, debit card, or electronic check only. Uber does not cover the cost of the TLC application.
