Receiving cash rental requests
In some cities, Uber allows renters to pay for rentals in cash. Renters are expected to carry enough cash to pay for the rental immediately upon arriving at the destination.
When you receive new rental requests, the app will specify if the renter will pay in cash at the end. When you accept a cash rental request, you are responsible for collecting payment of the suggested price. It is recommended that you carry enough cash to give change to a renter paying with large bills.
If the renter pays less than the suggested price
- At the end of the lease, a confirmation screen will appear in your Uber app showing the total suggested price.
- If the user pays less than this amount, select “Other amount” and enter the amount you received, even if it is zero.
- The user will then be prompted in their own app to confirm the amount you entered.
- If the renter cannot confirm (for example, if their phone is out of battery), select “The user cannot respond” and choose the reason.
- Once confirmed, if your account and the lease are eligible, the correct amount will be added to your earnings, and the user will have an outstanding balance on their account.
Giving change for payments above the suggested price
If the user pays more than the suggested price and you don’t have exact change, you can give change in two ways:
- Use the automatic change tool: If the user agrees, select “Other amount” and enter the amount they gave you. The system will automatically return the difference as credits to the user’s account and adjust your earnings.
- Give cash change directly, if you have enough change available.
Cash Payment Confirmation availability
- Cash Payment Confirmation is currently in testing and may not be available to all driver partners or on all cash rentals.
- This feature may also be unavailable for leases between 10pm and 6am.
What if you couldn’t report it in the app?
If the user leaves the vehicle without paying the correct amount and you couldn’t use the in-app tool at the time, let us know here. We will review their account and prevent this from happening in the future.
