As a driver in Massachusetts, you are provided with key insurance protections and financial support for state-run leave programs.
Occupational Accident Insurance
As of October 1, 2024, you are automatically covered by occupational accident insurance at no cost to you.
- What it Covers: This insurance helps protect against medical expenses and loss of eligible earnings if you are injured in a covered accident while driving on the Uber platform. It provides up to $1,000,000 in medical expense coverage and disability payments.
- When You’re Covered: You are covered during your rideshare activity within Massachusetts, including when you are:
- Online and waiting for a trip request.
- En route to pick up a passenger.
- On a trip with a passenger that started in Massachusetts.

Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML)
As of October 1, 2024, you are eligible for financial assistance to help with the cost of Massachusetts’ state-run PFML program.
- What You Receive: At the end of each quarter, you will receive a payment equal to half the cost of enrolling in the state’s PFML program for your eligible earnings from that quarter.
- How it Works: PFML payment are made automatically, regardless of whether you have personally enrolled in the state program. The first PFML payment for Q4 2024 (Oct-Dec) was made at the end of January 2025.
