Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML)

As a TNC driver in Washington, you are eligible to enroll in a Paid Family Medical Leave pilot program run by the state’s Employment Security Department (ESD).

  • What it Offers: This program provides paid time off for qualifying family or medical circumstances. Depending on the situation, you may be eligible for up to 12, 16, or 18 weeks of leave.
  • Enrollment: You can enroll in the program on a quarterly basis, either directly with the ESD or through a third-party like the Drivers Union.
  • How to Enroll: To learn how to opt in, please visit the state’s official TNC pilot program website here.
  • Premiums: Your premiums for participating in this program are fully reimbursed. If you enroll independently (i.e., not through a third-party), you must report your compensation and pay premiums to ESD every quarter. This information will be included in communications sent from Uber on the 15th day of the month following the end of a calendar quarter.
  • Using Paid Family Medical Leave: To use PFML, please refer to the Using Paid Leave section of the state’s official TNC pilot program website here.
