We hope that every trip goes well, but we also know that sometimes things don’t go as planned. With the Audio Recording safety feature enabled, your trips will be automatically recorded in the Uber app.
Allow microphone access for the Uber app. You will be prompted to do this when setting up your Teen account for the first time. You may later return to your settings if you wish to turn the feature off.
Recording will start as soon as your driver is nearing your pickup location. Recording will continue throughout the trip and will end 20 seconds after the end of your ride.
All audio recordings are encrypted and stored securely on your device. Your recording will be locked, and no one—not your driver, not Uber, not you or your guardian—has access to it. Uber can only access the recording if you report a safety incident to Uber Support and choose to share the recording.
Your driver may also choose to record the audio of your trip, and the same privacy standards apply. This means your driver also won’t be able to listen to any of their recordings. If they have Audio Recording set up, you’ll be notified while they’re on their way to pick you up so that you know before your trip starts.
To send audio to Uber Support in the event of a safety incident, go to Account > Trips and choose the trip you want to report. You’ll be prompted to describe what happened in as much detail as you can and a member of the Uber Support Team will contact you once they have reviewed the submitted recording.
