For all Rides trips that begin in Massachusetts, you are guaranteed a minimum payment for your active time.
Minimum Rate
The guaranteed minimum earnings rate is $34.48 per hour of active time. This rate will be adjusted for inflation annually on January 15th.
What is “Active Time”?
Active time is the period from when you accept a trip request until you drop the rider off at their destination.
What’s included:
- Time driving to the pickup location and time with the rider in the vehicle.
What’s NOT included:
- Time spent online waiting for a request.
- Time on Uber Eats delivery trips.
- Time on Rides trips that begin outside of Massachusetts.
- Time spent driving after you are notified that a rider has canceled.
- Any time on a trip that you cancel before dropping off the passenger.
For overlapping or shared trips, the active time is only counted once to prevent duplication.
How Earnings Are Calculated
Your earnings are reviewed over a two-week earnings period that starts every Monday at 4:00 AM ET.
- We calculate your total active time for all eligible trips within the two-week period.
- We determine your minimum earnings guarantee by multiplying your total active time by the $34.48/hour rate.
- We compare this guaranteed amount to your actual net earnings.
If your actual earnings are less than the guaranteed amount, you’ll receive a supplemental top-up payment. These minimum earnings guarantee payments are typically processed on the Thursday after the earnings period ends.
What Counts Towards Your Earnings?
When calculating if you have met the minimum guarantee, the following are included:
- Your standard trip fares.
- On-trip incentives and guarantees.
The following are NOT included:
- Tips and gratuities.
- Tolls and cleaning fees.
- Referral bonuses and other offline promotions.

Scenario 1: Single Trip
- Accept Trip Timestamp: 8:00 AM
- End Trip Timestamp: 8:30 AM
- Total Active Time: 30 minutes
Scenario 2: Overlapping Trips
- Trip 1 Accept Time: 8:00 AM
- Trip 2 Accept Time: 8:20 AM
- Trip 1 End Time: 8:30 AM
- Trip 2 End Time: 8:45 AM
- Total Active Time: 45 minutes (Calculated from the start of the first trip at 8:00 AM to the end of the last trip at 8:45 AM).
