Transportation Network Company (TNC) Driver Minimum Compensation Ordinance - SMC 14.33

The Transportation Network Company (TNC) Driver Minimum Compensation ordinance covers TNC drivers performing TNC services in Seattle regardless of immigration status. TNCs must comply with this law, which takes effect on January 1, 2021.

Minimum compensation

TNCs must pay drivers $0.32 per minute + $1.33 per mile or $5 per trip, whichever is greater

The per minute rate increased monthly until reaching $0.57 on April 1, 2021.

Tip protection

All tips go to drivers and can’t be used to satisfy the minimum compensation requirements.

Cancellations

Drivers must receive at least $5 for trips canceled by passengers or TNCs.

Deductions

Drivers must agree in writing to any pay deductions.

Retaliation is illegal.

TNCs must provide drivers with pay information on a per-trip and weekly basis.
