Share Walking FAQ

Share Walking is a feature of Share rides where you may be asked to walk a short distance to your pickup or from your drop-off point. This helps improve pickup efficiency and reduce wait times, creating a smoother, more affordable experience for everyone in the ride.

What is Share Walking?

Share Walking means that your Share ride may involve a short walk before you’re picked up or after you’re dropped off. This walk could help you reach a nearby street or intersection that’s easier for your driver to access.

You don’t need to select anything special to enable this feature, as it is part of the Share product.

How does it work?

When you request a Share ride:

  1. The app finds a nearby driver and a Pickup Point (PUP) that is accessible for everyone.
  2. You may be asked to walk to that pickup point, typically located on a nearby street corner or major road.
  3. The app will provide step-by-step walking directions.
  4. After the ride, your driver may drop you off a short distance from your final destination, and the app will guide you the rest of the way.

Why am I being asked to walk?

Walking is built into the Share experience to:

  • Help drivers stay on efficient routes
  • Reduce unnecessary detours for other riders
  • Avoid congested or restricted areas
  • Lower wait and travel times
  • Keep ride costs lower

Think of it as meeting your ride halfway to save time and money, without compromising safety.

How far will I have to walk?

Most walking distances are short. Generally:

  • 1 to 6 minutes on foot
  • Less than 500 meters

You’ll see the estimated walk time before confirming the trip. If you’re unable or unwilling to walk, you can choose a different ride option that offers direct pickup and drop-off.

What if I walked but the trip was canceled or the driver didn’t arrive?

If you walked to the pickup point but the trip was:

  • Canceled by the driver
  • Ended early or the driver never showed up

You may be eligible for a refund of the cancellation fee or a partial refund if the trip started and ended mid-way. Support agents will review:

  • Trip GPS and timestamps
  • Driver behavior
  • Your walk and arrival timing

Make sure to reach out through the Help section with the specific trip details.

Will I always have to walk with Share?

Not always. Share Walking is applied dynamically based on:

  • Your location
  • Nearby road conditions
  • Other riders on your route

Sometimes, the pickup and drop-off will still be at or near your exact location. But when walking is needed, it’s to ensure the ride is as smooth as possible for everyone on board.

Do Share Walking trips cost more or less?

Share rides are usually more affordable than standard rides. Walking helps keep fares low by reducing detours and improving route efficiency. There’s no extra fee for walking. In fact, it helps save you money.

Can I request a refund if I missed my ride or canceled it?

Refunds are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. You may be eligible for a refund if:

  • The driver arrived significantly later than estimated
  • You walked to the pickup point, but the driver didn’t arrive
  • The trip ended prematurely or you were dropped off too early
  • Conditions made walking unsafe

You may not be eligible if:

  • You were late to the pickup point
  • You canceled after the driver arrived
  • You’ve received multiple walk-related refunds in the past

Where is Share Walking available?

Share Walking is currently offered in select cities where Share is available. If you don’t see walking prompts, it’s likely that the feature isn’t active in your area yet or wasn’t needed for that specific trip.
