Applying for Military Base Access

Applying for access to military bases in the US can provide additional earning opportunities for Uber drivers. Here’s what you need to know:

Eligibility

Drivers in certain US cities can apply for access to their local military bases. The eligibility requirements vary by base, including citizenship & documentation requirements. Base access requirements and restrictions and conditions are subject to change by the US Military at any time without notice. You are solely responsible for following all military access requirements and policies, now and in the future.

Types of Access

Some bases allow access only for Rides drivers. Other bases only allow access for Uber Eats drivers. Some bases allow access for both.

Existing Base Access

Even if you have existing base access as a military spouse, active duty military, DoD employee, or a veteran with a Veteran Health Identification Card, you must follow the application process provided in the app to ensure you have access for commercial purposes. You cannot use a military ID for commercial purposes and must obtain a base access card from the installation in order to complete trips.

Application Process

Go to the Work Hub in the Driver app.
Locate the opportunity for the base you want to access.
Follow the instructions given in the app and fill out any required forms.
At a certain point in the application process, you will need to visit the base in person. Do not visit the base until you are instructed to do so. Before you visit the base, we recommend checking the hours of operation to make sure it is not closed.

Base Access Card

After approval, the base will issue you a base access card. For most eligible bases, this will be a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) card. However, the following bases issue a different kind of base access card:

Fort Bliss (El Paso, Texas)
Fort Bragg / Fort Liberty (Fayetteville and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina)
Oahu Army Bases (Honolulu, Hawaii)
Joint Base Lewis-McChord (Tacoma, Olympia and Seattle, Washington)
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (Washington DC, Baltimore-Maryland)
Any eligible US Army bases

Access Card Requirements

The access card must be issued by the base you are trying to access, with a few exceptions:

DBIDS cards issued by any of the following Hampton Roads Navy bases can be used interchangeably: NS Norfolk, NSA Hampton Roads, NWS Yorktown, JEBLC-Fort Story, NAS Oceana, NN Shipyard
DBIDS cards issued by any of the following NB San Diego bases can be used interchangeably: NB San Diego, NB Point Loma, NB Coronado

Uploading Your Access Card

Once you receive your base access card, upload a photo of it into the DBIDS or Base Access Card document slot in the Driver app.

Opting out of Military Base Trips

If you already have access to a military base and you want to opt out of trips for that base, contact us and we can update your account for you.
