CTP Insurance Charge

NSW GOVERNMENT REFORMS:

As part of the NSW Government reforms to Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, a new 'usage based' scheme has been introduced that affects your trips using the Uber app. From 1 April 2018, the NSW Government will implement a new CTP scheme.

DOES THIS IMPACT DRIVER-PARTNERS?

No, this fee will be collected from riders by Uber and paid directly to the NSW Government. This means your riders will have an additional charge per kilometre from beginning to end of their trips. The fares you receive for each trip will not be affected.

FAQs FOR DRIVER-PARTNERS:

What do I need to do?
The additional charge per kilometre you will see on trip receipts reflects the additional CTP charge that is being collected from riders to pay to the NSW Government. As Uber is both reporting ridesharing kilometres to SIRA and will pay any additional CTP charges on your behalf, you don't need to do anything. There is no change to your fares. You are still responsible for paying your normal CTP insurance, as before.

What Uber products does this apply to?
The CTP charge only applies to ridesharing trips.

How is the CTP charge calculated?
A $0.10 per kilometre charge for journeys starting in metro regions and $0.066 per kilometre for journeys that start in country regions. For shared rides, like Uber Pool, we charge each rider a proportion of the CTP ($0.03 per kilometre).

Why are riders being charged with this fee?
The recent changes to CTP for ridesharing vehicles means that every kilometre you travel on trip, you are liable to pay. We understand that for many driver-partners this change represents a significant added cost to their business. Because of this, the fee will be collected from riders by Uber and paid directly to the NSW Government.

Do the changes to CTP Insurance affect my Comprehensive insurance coverage even if I have Comprehensive insurance with rideshare coverage?
CTP insurance coverage is mandatory across NSW and is different to comprehensive insurance with ridesharing coverage. The insurance requirements for driving with the Uber app remain the same.
