How earnings are calculated for rides

What riders pay

The rider pays a fare plus additional fees:

  • Fare: You earn the rider’s fare minus the service fee you pay to Uber. Any additional fees don’t contribute to your earnings. The fare starts with a base price, per-minute amounts, and per-kilometer amounts. These can be increased by:
    • Surge, which causes fares to increase when rider demand is higher than the number of drivers online
    • Extra features a rider chooses, like Uber Electric or Uber Pet trips, rides reserved in advance, trips far out of town, or where your rider makes you wait before the trip.
  • Additional fees: The additional fees do not contribute to your earnings but offset charges like regulatory fees, airport fees, booking fees, and others.

What drivers earn

  • You earn the rider’s fare minus the Service Fee you pay to Uber. Any additional fees don’t contribute to your earnings.
  • You also earn 100% of tips from riders.

Why riders pay more than driver earnings

When the rider sees their price, it includes the fare plus all of the additional fees. These additional fees a rider pays can increase the overall price of the trip, especially with airport trips. To determine your earnings, it’s best to look at the fare components on your receipt.

Viewing earnings statement breakdown

  • You can always check the fare components, other fees, and service fee percentages in your driver addendum at drivers.uber.com by going to Profile and then scrolling down to the Contracts section before you accept a trip.
  • Additionally for completed trips, this information will appear at the trip level within your Driver app, and on the earnings section of drivers.uber.com.
  • For trips in progress, you can see your rates (base fare, time, distance) on the trip waybill.

Finding trip receipts

You can find trip receipts for past trips in the Earnings tab of your Driver app or the earnings section of drivers.uber.com.

Rider promotions and discounts

Any promotions or discounts offered to riders are covered through the Service Fees you already pay Uber.
