How Uber Reports Crimes Involving Minors

Why does Uber report incidents to Law Enforcement/ Local Authorities?

At Uber, safety is our top priority. We report allegations of possible criminal offences involving minors to Law Enforcement or local authorities. As part of our reporting obligations, the details of the person making the report are also disclosed. We do this in the interest of child safety and to comply with criminal and child protection laws. This all helps to keep our users safe.

What incidents does Uber report?

We report allegations of possible crimes perpetrated against minors which represent a serious safety or welfare concern.

Why do you share my details?

Law enforcement requires Uber to share this information when Uber reports an allegation of a possible crime perpetrated against a minor, where there may be a risk to a minor in the event that the report is correct. In these circumstances, it is important that law enforcement or local authorities are able to make contact with the reporter without delay, in order to properly risk-assess the situation and take any appropriate action to safeguard the minor. If you prefer that Uber does not share your data, you can choose to report directly to law enforcement or other child protection authorities.

What data do you share when you make a report?

We share details of the reporting person which will include their name, contact number, and email address, the accused party’s details, the details of the minor involved, and a summary of the allegation. Law enforcement can request additional information via our Public Safety Response Portal, using the relevant legal process. Such requests will be assessed on a case by case basis.

How do you share the data?

We have a dedicated Public Safety Response team that reports incidents that meet the criteria outlined above with law.
