New Delivery Person Agreements starting July 1, 2021

Previously, Uber Eats connected you with a network of merchants who wanted to directly retain you to provide delivery services. Starting July 1, 2021, this model will change and you will be selling your delivery services to Uber Eats, who will resell them to customers.

With this new business model, you’ll continue to enjoy the flexibility and independence the Uber App offers. You can still choose when, where and for how long you want to deliver and, as always, you can choose to accept, reject, or cancel delivery requests when you are online.

The main differences you will notice effective 1 July:

CONTRACT RELATIONSHIP

Previously you were retained by merchants to undertake deliveries. Under the new agreement, you will be selling delivery services to Uber Portier Canada Inc., who will resell them to customers. Access to the app will be provided by Uber Technologies, Inc.

SERVICE FEE CHANGES

We are changing the fee structure by eliminating service fees. The estimated net earnings per trip (what you take home) is already shown when a delivery request is offered to you in the app, and this won’t change. What will change is that we will no

Frequently Asked Questions

WHY WILL YOU STOP CHARGING A SERVICE FEE STARTING JULY 1, 2021?

When we switched to the more transparent in-app up-front pricing in June 2020, we started showing you your estimated earnings net of Uber’s service fee when you receive a request. Eliminating the service fee altogether is the natural next step in terms of simplicity and transparency. Eliminating the service fee is also more consistent with Uber Eats’ new business model. This change does not impact your net per trip earnings on the App.

For example: If your net take home earnings were $400 last week, if this new structure was in place you would still have brought home $400.

WILL THERE BE ANY CHANGES TO MY CONTRACT?

Yes. These are the most noticeable changes:

Under the new model, you will be selling delivery services to Uber Portier Canada Inc., which resells those delivery services to customers. You’ll still receive instructions about delivery details from merchants and customers. You won’t contract with Uber Portier B.V. anymore.

The up-front price that you see in the app will still be the estimated take-home for you, subject to any post-trip fare adjustments. However, you will no longer see a service fee charged by Uber on your statements.

You can substitute a delegate of your choice, meaning you can choose someone else to complete the delivery for you. There’s a process to get signed up explained at the link below.

You’ll confirm your responsibilities to comply with local laws if you choose to deliver regulated items like alcohol or prescription medications.

You are encouraged to take some time to read the contract yourself before agreeing to it, and we are here to answer any questions you might have.

WILL THE APP CHANGE AS A RESULT OF THE AGREEMENT UPDATE?

No. The Uber Eats app will not change. Of course, we’re always looking for ways to improve our technology and we will continue to update it as we’ve always done.

WHY ARE YOU CHANGING YOUR BUSINESS MODEL? WHY NOW?

A lot has changed since the Uber Eats app first launched in Toronto back in 2015. Today, we’re proud to offer the Uber Eats platform in over 140 municipalities in 9 provinces across the country. By becoming a Canadian-based entity, we’re signifying our committment to building a sustainable business right here.
