Uber is working with CMT and the Association for Safe International Road Travel (ASIRT) to provide you with tips to help avoid unsafe driving. You can find these tips throughout your driving dashboard.
Hard braking
- Stay at least 3 seconds behind the car in front of you.
- Allow for extra following distance in low visibility or heavy traffic.
- Slow down in urban areas, around children, and crosswalks.
- Start to slow down when you’re approaching a curve, entering an exit or entrance ramp, or when roads are narrow or winding.
Harsh accelerating
- Accelerate smoothly by gradually increasing your speed.
- Avoid fast acceleration when passing other vehicles or while switching lanes.
Phone handling
- Use a phone mount to secure your phone.
- Connect to Bluetooth for easy access to music and other services without distractions.
- Use Uber’s pre-written replies if you need to communicate with a rider.
Sharp turning
- Keep a steady speed before and during turns.
- Slow down if you or your passengers are leaning during turns.
- Scan the road ahead.
- Use your mirrors, and check your blind spots.
Speeding
- Pay attention to posted speed limits.
- Check your speedometer regularly.
- Remember that the speed limit can change based on the time of day in some areas, like school zones.
