Trips Outside of New York City

Driving in New York City

Drivers must meet the following requirements in order to pickup and drop-off in New York City:

  • Obtain a NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) driver license for themselves
  • The vehicle they drive must be licensed by the TLC as a for-hire vehicle
  • Drivers must comply with all TLC licensing requirements

Driving in upstate New York and NYC Suburbs

Drivers with TLC licensed will not be able to complete trips that both begin and end outside of New York City (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island). TLC drivers will be able to complete trips beginning in Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Dutchess, or Ulster Counties as long as the trip ends in New York City.

If you are interested in completing trips that both begin and end outside of New York City, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • New York state driver license
  • A 4 door vehicle that is 2002 or newer (no commercial plates)
  • Vehicle insurance that lists your name as an insured
  • Vehicle registration
  • Sign up through the link below
  • You will need to use a different email than what is associated with your current NYC account.

Only New York City TLC licensed drivers that meet all of the TLC requirements and have Uber NYC accounts will be able to pick up riders in New York City.
