Effective January 1, 2023, eligible drivers in Washington can accrue and use Paid Sick Time (PST).
You earn 1 hour of PST for every 40 hours of passenger platform time. Passenger platform time is the duration a rider is in your vehicle during a trip. Paid sick time is accrued for all Washington rideshare trips, and only Washington Passenger Platform Time will count towards PST. This means any Uber Eats or other delivery trips are not eligible for this benefit.
You may be eligible to accrue PST if you complete rideshare or commercial trips that begin and/or end in the state of Washington regardless of if your sign up city is located in Washington.
You begin accruing sick time after your first rideshare or commercial trip in Washington.
Uber doesn’t automatically issue payment for PST, you must initiate the payment process by claiming available PST hours.
You can claim PST in 4-hour blocks, up to a maximum of 8 hours per day. Payment is based on your average hourly compensation from the last 12 months (excluding tips and expenses).
Once you submit a claim, payment will be processed within 14 days. You can carry over up to 40 hours of unused PST to the next year. To claim your sick time in the app:
The City of Seattle has a separate Paid Sick and Safe Time (PSST) ordinance for both drivers and delivery couriers with different rules for accrual and use.
If you complete delivery trips in Seattle, you may be eligible for this benefit. Learn more on the Seattle Paid Sick and Safe Time page.
