Why is my background check taking longer than expected?

Background check delays can occur for a variety of reasons. In order for vendors to complete your background check report and provide Uber with the results, they need to verify the information with county courthouses. If a courthouse doesn’t provide electronic court records or are experiencing delays due to COVID-19 restrictions, this can cause delays. These steps are required regardless of having a criminal history or not. This does not have an affect on the outcome of the decision.

It is also important to look out for any emails one of the vendors may have sent you. In the United States, background checks are performed by Uber’s third-party background check providers Checkr, HireRight, and Samba Safety. Sometimes the background check can stall because the vendor needs more information from you to complete your report.

We’ll work closely with the vendor to get you on the road as soon as possible. You’ll then receive an email when this process is complete.

Some states may have screening requirements in addition to the initial background check report. These processes can take additional time to complete.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to providing more information as it’s available.
