I have a temporary charge (Authorization Hold)

The financial institution might make a temporary charge for card payment. Temporary charges would not actually be charged until finalized.

If you haven’t used Uber service for a period of time, or if you’ve added a new payment method to your account, you would be billed to inquire about the validity of your card.

In addition, multiple temporary charges may be displayed on the statement until the final amount is finalized for one ride.

See temp billing examples below:

  • For the upfront pricing at the time of dispatch Temp billing
  • For when changed destinations while boarding Temp billing
  • For when the tip was paid after boarding

Rest assured that as soon as the final amount is finalized, you would only be charged for the actual fee, and the remaining provisional charges would be invalidated within a few days. The number of days until it becomes invalid depends on your financial institution. For confirmation, please contact the financial institution directly.

Notes for Debit Card:

  • The provisional bill might be displayed as the actual bill.
  • All charges will be refunded except for the actual charges you used Uber Rides services.
  • It might take more than a month for a refund compared to other payment methods. Please contact your bank about the status of provisional billing.

The temporary bill would be displayed in Receipt on your Uber account.
