Earlier this year, we introduced Uber teen accounts in California to allow teenagers between the age of 13 and 17 to take trips on Uber with parental consent and access additional safety features like live trip tracking, PIN verification, and RideCheck.
Unfortunately, as of December 23, 2024, teens and guardians are no longer able to request teen rides in California. A recent decision by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has resulted in the shutdown of teens’ access to rides across the state.
We know this change is disappointing and disruptive, and we share your frustration. We’re committed to working with policymakers to find a solution that allows us to bring teen rides back to California.
With this update, teens must either be 18+ or ride with an adult when using Uber in California. If a rider looks younger than 18, drivers can cancel the trip.
However, teenagers can still use their teen account to order Uber Eats in California and to request rides while outside the state.
Can we help with anything else?
