At pick up
Wait time fee is calculated based on the time driver-partners spend waiting after they have arrived at the pickup location. Wait time fees are charged automatically and cannot be triggered by driver-partners manually.
In some locations, a rider will be charged a per-minute wait time fee, which will begin 2 minutes after the driver-partner arrives at the rider’s location. We notify the rider that the charge has started, and it will continue until the driver begins the trip.
EXTENDED WAIT TIME - Uber Premier: Per-minute wait time fees kick in after 5 minutes (except on Airports where it still begins after 2 minutes).
If the trip is cancelled and the rider is charged a cancellation or no-show fee, they will not be charged for wait time. Additionally, this fee may not apply to airports or certain other venues.
The wait time fee grace period and the commencement of the no-show window start at the time of a driver’s arrival at a pick-up location. A driver’s arrival time is based on technology that uses GPS coordinates, which does not always perfectly correspond to real world coordinates.
Everyone’s time is valuable, and this ensures a smoother ride for all.
