Wait time fees and refunds

As a rider, it’s a good practice to request a ride when you’re at or near the pickup location and ready to meet your driver. Wait time fees are designed to compensate drivers for the time they spend waiting and to promote efficiency and reliability on Uber’s platform.

Wait Time Fees:

  • Typically, riders requesting through UberX are charged a per-minute wait time fee if they don’t enter the vehicle within 2 minutes of the driver’s arrival.
  • For Uber Black or Uber Black SUV options, the wait time threshold is 5 minutes.
  • Wait time fees and thresholds may vary by location.
  • Additional wait time charges may apply depending on how busy it is.

Exceptions:

  • If the trip is canceled and you are charged a cancellation or didn’t show fee, you will not be charged for wait time.
  • This fee does not apply to UberX Share, WAV, or Assist options.

Disputing a Wait Time Fee:

  • If you believe you were incorrectly charged a wait time fee, including for needing extra time to enter the vehicle, let us know.
  • Enter your initials and select the trip date to start the process.

GPS Accuracy:

  • The wait time fee grace period and didn’t show window start when the driver arrives at the pickup location.
  • Driver arrival times are based on GPS coordinates, which may not always perfectly match real-world locations.
