About Uber Private Car

What is Uber Private Car?

In Uber Private Car service in Japan, transportation is provided by drivers with first-class licenses who have a contract with taxi companies in their privately owned vehicles or rented taxi vehicles. Uber provides a platform that connects the taxi companies (and its drivers) with riders.

How to request an Uber Private Car trip?

Please follow the directions below to request a trip via Uber app.

  1. Tap “Service” of the app
  2. Tap “Request Trip”
  3. Enter your drop-off location in the app
  4. Tap “Uber Private Car”
  5. Confirm the pickup location by adjusting the pin
  6. Tap “CONFIRM” and complete the request process if you agree with the notes

What areas can we use Uber Private Car?

Uber Private Car is available in some areas of Tokyo and Kyoto. If you select an available area and time on the app, “Uber Private Car” will appear on the vehicle selection screen.

If you add multiple stops or change the pick-up / drop-off location, and the pick-up / drop-off locations are both outside the business area of the taxi company, you might be denied a ride.

The service won’t be displayed on the app if the request is created outside of the area or / and business hours.

How much is the fare and how to pay?

Pricing * Upfront Pricing

Note * Upfront prices are calculated using the expected distance of the trip and the upfront multiplier designated by the District Transport Bureau. * You may be charged a different price than Upfront Pricing in some circumstances. (Please see here for the details.) * Uber Private Car will charge a booking fee, which is included in the upfront price * Late-night / early-morning extra charge will be applied if the beginning to the end of the ride is between 10:00 p.m. ~ 5:00 a.m.

What is the cancellation policy for Uber Private Car?

The cancellation fee might be charged in the following situation.

  • When a rider cancels a trip 5 minutes after a driver accepts the trip request: 500 JPY
  • When a rider doesn’t show up for the trip 5 minutes after arriving at the pick-up point and cancels the trip: 500 JPY

Will the toll fee be charged separately?

No, an upfront price including a toll will be automatically calculated and shown in your app when requesting a Uber Private ride. However, please note that the toll fee might vary depending on the actual fate usage.

Can I add multiple stops?

Yes, you can add multiple stops when requesting a trip /during a trip. There are 2 ways to add or update additional stops.

When requesting a trip:

  1. Open the Uber app and tap the “Where To?” box
  2. Tap “+” to add additional stops
  3. Tap “COMPLETE” to continue

During the trip:

  1. Scroll up on the home screen during the trip and tap the section [add or edit]
  2. Tap “+” to add additional stops
  3. Confirm the stop(s) you entered and tap “Continue”
  4. Tap “Confirm” to reflect your stop(s) on your trip

To remove a stop, tap the “X” next to it.

Note about the additional stops

  • Stops will be made in the order they’re added. Please check before adding stops.
  • You can add up to 5 additional stops.
  • Remember to keep each stop under 3 minutes.
  • Please see here for the details about adding multiple stops.
  • If you add stops after the trip has started, you may be charged a different price than the Upfront Price.

Where can I report when I feel a driver’s attitude or driving is inappropriate?

Uber Private Car is operated by drivers who have taken a safety course from taxi companies. However, if you felt unsafe during a trip, please contact us through this help page.

When inquiring, please provide as much detailed information as possible to ensure prompt support.

How can I apply the disability discount to the trip?

Please notify the driver during the trip about your wish to apply disability discount.

To adjust the fare, please contact support and let us know after completing your trip that you informed the driver of the disability discount.
