What is a gift card?

  • The gift card can be used for Uber rides and Uber Eats orders. You can purchase a gift card in-store or online and register it in your Uber account before using it.
  • A gift card purchased in Japan can only be valid in Japan.
  • The expiration date is 3 years from the date of purchase.
  • To use the gift card, a payment method other than gift card or cash must be registered in your account.

Purchasing a gift card

Both card-type and online gift cards are available and can be purchased in-store or online.

Card-type gift card

Available at convenience stores, pharmacy stores, and Amazon.

There are gift cards with an amount of 3,000 JPY, 5,000 JPY and 10,000 JPY. Also Variable cards are available in amounts from 1,500 JPY to 50,000 JPY in increments of 1 yen.

Available at the following stores (the type of cards sold differs depending on the store)

  • amazon.co.jp (Variable cards are not available)
  • Family mart (Tokyo)
  • Lawson
  • Mini stop
  • Seven eleven (Tokyo)
  • Welcia group

Online gift cards

Available for online purchase at the following website. You can set the amount from 100 yen to 50,000 yen.

Register the gift card in your account

Gift cards shall be registered in your account before using it. The amount of the gift card will be credited to your account as Uber Cash and will be applied automatically when Uber Cash is selected as the payment method for your order.

  • Tap “Account” at the bottom of the screen in Uber Eats app or Uber app.
  • Tap “Payment” at the top.
  • Tap “Add payment” and select “Gift Card” from the list on the screen.
  • Enter gift card PIN code without spaces.

Unable to use gift card

Unable to register

Expired: Gift cards are valid for 3 years from the date of purchase; after 3 years, it will expire.

Wrong numbers: Make sure the PIN number is entered correctly. Note that there are two types of numbers on the gift card: PIN number and serial number.

Over the limit: When you register a gift card, it will be credited to your account as Uber Cash. The upper limit of Uber Cash that can be credited to your account is 100,000 JPY. Please use the Uber Cash already credited to your account first.

Not valid in the country: Gift cards are only valid in countries that use the same currency as the currency that they were purchased.

Ineligible Accounts: Only available for personal accounts. Cannot be used under a Family or Business profile.

Not redeemable when ordering

No other payment methods registered: For some cities, the estimated cost of the ride request or order will be charged to your payment method. Therefore, you must have a credit card or other payment method other than gift cards and cash in your account. Once the ride is completed or order is delivered, Uber Cash will be applied and your payment method will no longer be charged.

Other notes

  • Once a gift card is added to your account, it is not transferable to another account.
  • No refunds, returns or exchanges will be made for lost, stolen, or for sent to the wrong person accidentally.
